Where Are They? Meet Kevin Davis
Where it began
I started my CTL journey in my freshman year at Roosevelt High School with Ms. Sheena in 2017. My favorite lessons I remember are "Coffee = Character" and "The Wide and the Narrow Path.”
My project focused on giving back to my middle school, where we met with 8th graders from Stevenson Middle School every 2 weeks to inform them about high school and created a bond with them so that the transition to high school was easier.
The big move
I moved away from college to the United Kingdom.
I met a lot of different people from all aspects of life and got to travel around Europe. Throughout my time, Ms. Lahela kept in touch with me, making sure that I was always supported and loved. Which reminded me that Hawai'i will always be my home.
All of this made me miss Hawai'i and come back home after I graduate.
Summer in Hawai'i
I returned back to CTL through the Summer in Hawai'i Internship in 2024. Where we explored the different stories about Hawaii and deepened my love and appreciation for Home. Through this amazing program, I got to intern with the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai'i and meet my best friend.
My favorite part of the SiH program was bonding with the different Vanguard members and also learning about how to think critically from Katie's Corners.
Coming home.
After graduating from college at the University of East London. I received a phone call from Ms. Lahela, stating that I could make a great teacher and to apply for the Vanguard Fellowship.
I was missing home and decided to come home to give back to an organization that has shaped my character and deepened my love for Hawai'i.
Through the Fellowship, I have traveled to islands I have never been to, got to experience being a camp counselor for EMERGE camp, developed my leadership skills, and met with leaders from all sectors, learning what it takes to be “for Hawai'i” and “from Hawai'i”.
I hope to create a better Hawai'i through my journey as a Vanguard member, giving back to the land, ocean, and the communities here.
Much love,
